Frequently Asked Questions
What are the rules for the community posts?
The only requirements for blog posts are that they be local, interesting and legal. That's it. So write your own news story, post a photo, embed a video, link to a news story or your blog or even promote your own event. Oh, and please don't rip off other people's stuff.
What happens after I post something?
The post will appear on the Community Blog home page and in the sidebar at the main Red Stick Live page. The most popular and interesting posts will be bumped up to the main blog.
How often can I post?
As often as you'd like.
How do I register?
Click register at the top of the Community Blog main page and fill out the form. An email will be sent to you to confirm your registration. Once our system has confirmed that you're not a diabolical robot out to destroy humanity, you can begin posting.
Do I have to register separately for the main blog and the community blog?
Nope. Well, sort of. Currently when you register for either blog our software doesn't automatically sign you up for the second blog, but if you allow 24 hours, our team of trained lab monkeys will do it for you. In the meantime, you can comment on the main blog anonymously or just by using your email.
What if my post isn't showing up immediately?
The software apparently always requires administrative approval for community posts, even though we would like everything to post immediately. We're working on it, but the best we can do right now is approve the posts as quickly as possible. if you posted at 4 a.m., please give us a few hours to approve it. And switch to decaf.
Why isn't my page showing up on the main page sidebar?
We use feedburner to embed the community blog posts on the main page sidebar, and the service only updates automatically every 30 minutes. You can click here to ping the feed and update it immediately, which in plain English means it should appear on the main page right away.
I registered but I'm not showing up as a member on the Community Blog.
It's a peculiarity of the software, and a pretty annoying one at that. You should appear as a member within 24 hours. Even if you're not listed as a member, you should be able to post without a problem.
This community blog is great and all, but I'm a stupendous and experienced writer who wants to post regularly on the main blog.
We're always looking for regular contributors. We should talk. Email us.
Will you sell my email address to the car warranty telemarketers or Nigerian scam artists?
Nope. We'll never sell, distribute or divulge your email address or personal information to any third party. Unless a judge or Chuck Norris tells us to. Legal stuff here.
