Every August, the Perseid Meteor Shower lights up the sky as the earth passes through the leftover debris of a comet orbiting around the sun. The result is a spectacular display of some 100 or more meteors, or shooting stars, per hour! In this live planetarium presentation, Jon Elvert, director of the Pennington Planetarium, explores why the Perseid Meteor Shower is the year's major meteor shower, what comets are and where they come from, and the difference between meteorites and asteroids.
